As jy geniet flicks soos beteken meisies Clueless, jy sal waarskynlik geniet dit. Bonus!
Did you know, the hearts strings can break after a deep emotional trauma causing the heart to lose form as a result of being unable to pump blood effectively, you can literally die from a broken heart.
Today the grade 10 and 11 students were disecting Ox- hearts in life sciences. OX Heart is double the size of veal heart, three times the size of pig heart, and four times the size of lamb heart. A trimmed heart weighs on average 3 to 4 pounds (1 1/3 to 1 3/4 KG)
Dissecting animal organisms is a tricky subject which ultimately some will object to and that’s OKAY. There will always be some students who wish not to do a dissection, and Mrs Saunders always allows whatever level of participation they choose in these experiences. Many prefer to just watch. Many of those eventually join in.The Economics and grade nine learners came in to watch the grade 10’s dissect hearts, as well as other teachers from other subjects.
There was blood on the table, with the equipment needed to dissect a heart. The learners felt as if they were doctors doing a heart operation on someone.
The important thing was that everybody had fun and learnt something from this new and amazing experience.
Today was an amazing day although we were a day early with our spring celebration, the weather did not disappoint. We started the day off with the grade 9 market day where there’s all sorts of food on sale.
Foods like Tacos, burgers, Shwamars were on sale as well as Virgin Mijito’s to quinch your thirst. Cake and Candy was on sale to keep the primary kids sugar rush on high. There was entertainment for everyone such as games and rides for the babies on the high school field and 6-aside soccer tournament on the primary side for the high school learners.
The high school learners looked ready for spring as they were all wearing beach and island clothes. All in all it was a well day spent.
Break on a Wednesday has to be the best part of the day because the tuckshop has Friday specials.
A special is something you would normally get a grocery store like Pick n Pay but here at covenant we have our own “Pick n Pay” . Every Friday the tuckshop offers specials for R20, only R20!!
You get to choose whether you want a burger or a sausage roll that comes with a juice box, oreos and a lollipop. I mean what more could a person ask for.
Today was a roller-coaster ride, literally. It stared off as a nice walk at the theme park, little did we know we were going to be in for a ride.
The grade 10-12 students went on an excursion to the underground Gold reef city mine. The old mine houses captured our attention as we were on our way to watch the documentary. The room was dark with no windows for ventilation. After the documentary we went to the Gold reef mine where we were exposed to extreme cold and hot conditions of the mine. Our ears drums popped when the tour guide switched on the drill. It was a nice bonding experience for the grades to get together and have fun outside of the class.
The educational trip was 90 minutes and after we headed to the theme park for loads of fun. The theme park wasn’t just meant for the learners but for the teachers as well. The grade 10 and 11 were very happy to the so called serious Mr Freitas put a smile on his face.
Athletics season began on the 1 August 2018. Our Athletes have been working very hard and so far have won most of their races. Oppose to last year the athletics team seems to be more serious to an extent where they even train on a Sunday.
I took time to interview one of covenant colleges best athletes, Lefika Molotsi in grade 10. Lefika has been training since last year December and hopes one day to become one of the top fastest people in the world. The young man says running is like life and he enjoys it alot. His motivation comes from people who think he can’t reach his dream and his goal is to prove them wrong.
Lefika’s short term goals include running all the way to prestige and hopefully making it to nationals this year. This however hasn’t been an easy journey for the young man as he has been injured quiet a number of times. The highlight of his athletic season so far was being able to run 400m while injured and still managing to place third.
To Lefika and the other athletes I wish you all the best and I know you will represent the school well.
2 August marked 40 days till the matrics finally leave school. Such a fun and memorable day allowed us to finally appreciate the matrics of the school. The shenanigans started with water balloons and spray guns, having us all soaked in water. It was clear that they had this planned and they caught us by surprise. The rest of the day was filled with flash mobs, cling wrap, eggs, flour and a whole lot of cleaning up to do.
One of the matriculates I interviewed ( who chooses to remain anonymous) explained that the stresses and pressure they have been feeling, were finally released on this day. They also enjoyed a day of civvies where they dressed up as what they would see themselves in the future.
To the matrics I wish you all the best with prelims and the future, i believe you will do exceptionally well and truly represent our school.
